Using BloggerNow that a significant number of you are registered

Using Blogger
Now that a significant number of you are registered to originate posts, let me give you a couple of suggestions that may cut down your learning curve for this service:

  1. To comment on an item posted by others, click on the "comments" button at the bottom of the post. This also allows you to review comments that others have made.

  2. To post a new item, click on the "Blogger" icon in the upper left corner of the screen. You will then get a screen that will list this blog ("Introduction to Telecommunications") along with other Blogger-based blogs of which you are a member (if you have any). Next to this is a green "+". Click on that, and you will get a screen with a text entry window where you can enter your text. Then, click "Publish Post" when you are done typing. After that, you may get a screen with the buttons "Republish Index" and "Republish Entire Blog". You can choose either (I republish the blog regularly anyway). You can then view your new post by pushing the "View Blog" tab on the top (under "Introduction to Telecommunications"). You may need to refresh the browser window if you are using a tabbed browser.

  3. After you master basic blogging, you will find a few other options to play with. For example, on top of the text window, you will see two tabs "Edit HTML" and "Compose". Blogger allows some HTML markup, so if you are comfortable with this, you can click use that. Below that, on top of the tan outline of the text window, you will find icons that allow you to bold or italicize highlighted text, add a web link to highlighted text, etc. Please feel free to play with these. If you end up posting something that you created as an experiment, I can delete it -- you will have to let me know.

You can also use Blogger's "help" feature to learn more.

To keep up with the course better, I would recommend that you make your feed aggregator your home page. Note that the feed aggregators unfortunately do not indicate where new comments have taken place. I hope that this will become a standard feature in future!

Governor Schwarzenegger Announces Appointments to the Broadband Task Force

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the appointment of Ellis Berns, Rachelle Chong, William Geppert, Charles Giancarlo, Paul Hernandez, William Huber, Christine Kehoe, Wendy Lazarus, Lloyd Levine, Michael Liang, Bryan Martin, Timothy McCallion, Sunne Wright McPeak, Milo Medin, Peter Pardee, Peter Pennekamp, Debra Richardson, Rollin Richmond, Larry Smarr, Jonathan Taplin and Emy Tseng to the Broadband Task Force.

The Broadband Task Force will bring together public and private stakeholders to remove barriers to broadband access, identify opportunities for increased broadband adoption and enable the creation and deployment of new advanced communication technologies.

In October, the Governor signed an Executive Order to clear the government red tape for expanding broadband networks and to create the Broadband Task Force, which was expanded to 21 members earlier this month.

"California is No. 1 in so many different things, whether it is biotechnology, stem cell research, protecting our environment, creating jobs or our university system. The Golden State must remain competitive in the telecommunication revolution so that we can continue to attract the best, the brightest and the most creative workforce in the world," said Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Broadband will help build California so we can grow our economy, create great jobs and stay ahead in the global marketplace."
