The SF Chronicle Goes Viral
Many newspapers and mainstream media outlets have started their own blogs, podcasts and other trappings of new media. But the The San Francisco Chronicle may have taken in a step further with its podcast, Correct Me If I Am Wrong.
The Chronicle has a call-in number for reader comments, and the paper started the Correct Me If I Am Wrong podcast to highlight as they put it, some of the more interesting and unusual ones that they get on it.
One of its first podcasts, posted on January 29, is a reader taking issue with the phrase pilotless drone. The podcast went positively viral, with a YouTube channel and with a ringtone.
Engadget covered it and National Public Radio picked up the story today today.
Every podcast ends with the familiar voicemail prompt of, To delete, press star D.
The only criticism I have is that the people calling into the line might consider all of this as making fun at their expense, which isn t too cool in the framework of social media s nobler goals.
That said, the entertainment value is outstanding. The SF Chronicle has several other podcasts up, one from a guy talking about Brain Device Crime.
The pitch he makes for his idea is worthy of the Bad Pitch Blog or worse.
